This class is interesting especially when reading the works with specific concentration on the family. In my opinon I find the blogs to be helpful to an extent, when reading other peoples comments but I also find them to be a hassel because I find it hard to analysis the works critically. I read the works and understand them but I do not have any additional input to initiate stimulating conversation. I feel we read some of the works a bit to quickly, and I hope we have a good review session to understand the underlying meaning behind the stories. I am not to sure what some authors were trying to say about family. The class lectures where helpful and interesting becuase Jon would specify certain sentences that I did not pay much attention to in my own reading.

Heh, indeed critical analysis is not always immediately easy… But a large part of the aim of the course is to help you learn this skill. And the blog is a place for you to try out some first ideas en route to a more extended analysis, and to think about which passages or parts of the book strike you as deserving particular attention. Keep it up!

I also find it helpful when specific passages are brought up in class. I’m not super experienced in literary analysis but it is definitely helping me to learn how to read future works more critically. I find I’m paying more attention in order to try to pick out passages that I myself feel support the underlying themes, tone, etc.
